Important topics for transport research in Switzerland post 2020

SCCER Mobility recently completed a Mission Report identifying and outlining important topics for mobility research in Switzerland post 2020. At that time, the SCCERs will no longer be in operation and with this report, SCCER Mobility draws on 7 years of experience to help guide future transport research towards reaching the goals of the Swiss Energy Strategy 2050. The report reviews the goals, challenges, international boundary conditions as well as newest developments in the field. Based on a framework for analyzing all relevant drivers of the mobility sector, it outlines a systemic portfolio of research priorities. These include topics in the areas of demand and modal choice, digitalization, incumbent and new technologies as well as energy carriers (see illustration below). Furthermore, more focus is needed on long-haul transport modes, sector coupling and pilot and demonstration projects. The report also sketches ideas on how to organize a future research program in sustainable mobility.
